The Diary of Eleanor Hestenfield

portrait-1462942_1920After the events in Black Crystal in 6364, Eleanor Hestenfield escaped to E’ma Thalas. As she learned more about herself, she recorded her thoughts in a small journal.

Season of Snows 6365 AOP

It’s been a year now since I discovered my true nature and joined the Lycans. Abilene says it’s important that I continue to record my thoughts as I gain more and more control over my abilities. I don’t think this really helps, though, for there are times when I still find myself in the forest without knowing how I got there.

I have to say that the forests of E’ma Thalas are beautiful, especially as the leaves bud on the trees. The elves seem friendly enough, but they’re nothing like the people I knew in the Xaggarene Empire. I miss the Shadow Walkers, and I miss Timothy. As much as I hate to admit it, I even miss Justin on occasion.

I’ve sent Timothy several letters over the past year, but he hasn’t responded. I don’t think he will. Even the beauty of the snow falling onto the kinloth outside my window can’t lift my spirits. Its purple leaves remind me of the scarf Timothy bought for me one evening when we went to the theater. It had the same delicate pattern as the leaves on the tree, though they are almost covered in snow.

I wish I could see him again, if only for a moment, just to explain, to make him understand that I’m not the evil creature he thinks me to be. I think if he could see me, he could see that I’m still the same person I always was. The question is: would it make a difference to him? Would Timothy ever be able to see beyond the events of Black Crystal? Can he ever forgive me? Sometimes I wonder, and it makes my heart ache. Perhaps, it would’ve been better if Justin had killed me. At least then I could know peace.

Name: Vonner Calerook

Age: 160

Species: Human Wizard

Home: Crowrest, E’ma Thalas

Personality: Vonner is a kind and caring person, and he’s a hard worker. He likes to keep to himself and work with the animals in Crowrest Keep. He’s not a big fan of going out into the forest, though he does enjoy standing on the battlements and looking at it.

Magic: Vonner’s magic usually shows as orange, and his strength is in battle magic, though most would never know that because of his personality. There is an additional dimension to his magic, one that comes from his parentage and of which he’s unaware.

Favorites: Vonner loves animals and spends his work time in Crowrest Keep taking care of the horses. He doesn’t care much for sweets, though he loves large meals.

Friends: Vonner’s best friend is Gwennyth Grimsbane. The two of them have been together since they were small children. Other than that, Vonner is a bit of an outcast, or was as a child. Even as an adult, he tends to stay to himself.

Goals: Vonner doesn’t have a lot of personal goals. He’s content with his life in Crowrest and prefers peace to anything else.

Faults: Vonner can be whiny and dependent. He clings to Gwennyth and relies on her for any sense of self-esteem he possesses. When put to the test, however, he will step up and take charge.

Excerpt:

“But the only clue your mother left was ‘look not in the places of the gods’. What’s that supposed to mean?”

I sighed and rolled my eyes and continued to make my way through the woods of E’ma Thalas. Vonner had talked incessantly for five days, and his chatter was beginning to wear on me…

I tried to answer, but my tongue flapped uselessly in my mouth, and my lips tingled. I pulled up the hem of my robe and pointed to where the infant asing sat attached to my ankle.

“Oh, gods. Here. Sit down.”

Vonner took me by the shoulders and eased me onto the mossy bed of the forest floor. My mind entered a fog of pain as Vonner pried the creature from my leg. White-hot flares of agony shot from each point the asing’s teeth penetrated my skin and tore through nerves to seep into blood and bone. I don’t know how long this continued, though surely it was only moments, before the cooling salve chased away the anguish and left me in a haze of relief.

“Better?” Vonner asked.

I nodded but couldn’t speak. Vonner made camp, and we rested until the following morning.

Now, though, his chatter and doubt did nothing but make me long for solitude.

Meet Timothy Hawkins

steampunk-880408_1280Name: Timothy Hawkins

Age: 23 – Wolf in the Shadow

Race: Human

Weapon: Spear of Victory

Pantheon: Celtic – Lugh

Profession: Enforcer

Hometown: Freywater

Childhood: Timothy came  from an average family in Freywater in the Xaggarene Empire. He attended school at the Arcana Maximus, where he was often in trouble with his best friends Justin Harper and Daniel Klesko.

Personality: As Timothy grew older and the burden of the Spear weighed more heavily on him, he lost most of his carefree attitude and settled into a life of little but responsibility. While he still spent time with Justin, his friend’s juvenile behavior got on Timothy’s nerves. He was forever telling Justin to grow up. This slowly eroded their friendship, as Justin saw no reason being responsible couldn’t be fun as well. After their assignment in Black Crystal, Wolf in the Shadow, the two parted company. From that point onward, Timothy trusted no one, and his relationship with the Shadow Walkers became more and more strained.

Favorite Foods: Timothy is a big fan of boar and stewed coniklo. He also has a sweet tooth and will devour anything made with sugar. He particularly likes jelly candy and fruit-filled chocolate.

Favorite Pastime: Timothy is a workaholic and spends as much time as possible at the Enforcer office and patrolling Freywater. He is the only officer who dares to enter the Warren, and he has as a special relationship with the people there. Sometimes, this gives him leads and helps him solve cases he wouldn’t otherwise be able to solve. On the rare occasions he doesn’t work, Timothy wanders the woods outside of Freywater.

Deepest Desire: Timothy’s most secret desire is for his one true love to come home. He misses her more than he ever thought possible, and there are times he longs to lay down his ethics and hold her in his arms.
